Blossom and Rose: Petals of Friendship

Jun 15, 2023 | Stories

Once upon a time, in a beautiful garden full of vivid colors and sweet fragrances, there lived two best friends: Blossom – a sprightly sunflower, and Rose – a radiant red rose.

Blossom was always cheerful, her sunny face tracking the sun across the sky. Her stem was as straight as a ruler, and her petals as bright as gold. On the other hand, Rose was an enchanting flower, with silky red petals twirling around her heart, and her aroma could make anyone’s day brighter.

One morning, Blossom woke up to a delightful surprise. A chirpy bee had decided to build a hive in her shade. She buzzed around Blossom, her tiny bee feet tickling Blossom’s petals and making her giggle. “Bzzzz, thanks for the shelter, Blossom!” the bee said, making a buzzing sound that tickled Blossom’s petals even more.

Meanwhile, some other flowers also find it friendly and funny, and they gather around Blossom and cherish this moment.

Seeing all this from a distance, Rose felt a strange twinge in her heart. It was a new feeling she hadn’t felt before. It was… jealousy. She wished she had a bee friend and could attract other flowers too.

So, one day, Rose hatched a mischievous plan when the bee was away. She spread some honey over her petals, hoping to attract the bee. But alas, she attracted a bunch of ants instead of a bee! They tickled her so much that she shook and shivered, scattering ants in every direction.

Blossom saw what happened and couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh, Rose, you are a sight for sore eyes,” she chuckled.

Rose felt embarrassed and sad. Seeing this, Blossom swayed over to Rose. “Why did you do that, Rose?” she asked.

With a sigh, Rose confessed, “I was jealous of your bee friend. I wanted one too.”

Blossom smiled kindly, “Rose, each one of us has something special. You have the sweetest scent in the whole garden, and I… well, I have a ticklish bee friend.”

“You don’t need to be jealous of anyone. Look, the butterflies visit you every day because they can’t resist your aroma. Don’t even get me started on how the humans admire your beauty.”

Hearing this, Rose felt a warm glow inside her. She realized how foolish she had been.

“Thank you, Blossom,” said Rose. “I now understand that being jealous only makes me lose sight of my own beauty.”

From that day forward, Rose never felt the discomfort of jealousy again. Instead, she appreciated Blossom, and Blossom admired Rose. Their friendship bloomed more than ever, setting a beautiful example for the whole garden.

And, whenever a new flower sprouted in the garden, Blossom and Rose would narrate their tale, spreading the seeds of love and friendship and teaching the little ones the value of appreciating oneself and others.

Lesson Learned

Remember, every flower is beautiful in its own way. Like Blossom and Rose, may we learn to see the beauty within ourselves and others too.

A Taste of Wisdom: 5 Honey Facts to Buzz About

1. Honey is Made by Bees

Did you know honey is made by bees using nectar from flowers? Bees carry the nectar in their tummy and return it to their hive. Inside the hive, other bees turn the nectar into honey by a process of regurgitation and evaporation.

2. Honey Never Spoils:

This might surprise you, but honey never goes bad. Archaeologists have even found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3000 years old and still perfectly good to eat!

3. Unique Tastes:

Honey can have different flavors and colors depending on the types of flowers the bees visit. Some honey might be light and sweet, while others can be dark and robust.

4. Bee Communication:

Bees communicate with each other about the location of good flower patches by doing a special dance called the “waggle dance.” This helps them gather nectar more efficiently to make more honey.

5. Hardworking Bees:

It takes about 556 worker bees to gather 1 pound of honey from about 2 million flowers. That’s a lot of flowers visited and long distances covered by these hardworking insects!
